About product

Fokker D.VII (Alb, early) - a Roden plastic kit in 1:48 scale

Injection-molded plastic kit of the German Fokker D.VII fighter biplane in 1:48 scale from the Ukrainian brand Roden. The Alb designation refers to machines built under license by Albatros, and the early suffix to the early production form. The model has a finely rendered covering and an open cockpit; the box usually offers several engine and propeller variants as well. The instructions in the box state the exact contents and the decal schemes.

The real subject

The Fokker D.VII is regarded as one of the best fighters of the First World War. It stood out for its easy handling, its good view and its ability to stay in the fight even at low speeds, where other machines lost control. Demand for it was so great that besides the parent Fokker company it was built under license by Albatros as well; the machines from license production differed outwardly very little and carried the Alb designation after the type. The aircraft was so feared that it was named explicitly in the armistice terms as equipment Germany had to hand over to the victors. The early versions differed from the later ones in details of the engine and the radiator.

Building and painting tips

Finish the cockpit and the lower wing first, then seat the upper wing in the struts and let it set carefully. Compared with other biplanes of the period the Fokker D.VII had only a minimum of bracing wires, so the rigging here is sparing - which makes the accurate seating of the spars and struts matter all the more. Apply the typical colorful covering of printed lozenge camouflage as a decal over a smooth gloss base. Bring the metal parts of the engine and the radiator to life with metallic shades and a dry brush.

Who the model is for

  • For collectors of German fighters of the First World War.
  • For fans of the legendary Fokker D.VII and of Albatros license production.
  • For modelers who want to try the lozenge camouflage pattern.
  • For more advanced builders with a taste for aircraft of the Great War.

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
