Hawker Fury, Spanish service in 1:48 scale from the Polish manufacturer Lukgraph. A fully 3D-printed resin kit of an interwar fighter biplane for experienced modelers.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Hawker Fury in Spanish service in 1:48 scale is a kit from the Polish manufacturer Lukgraph. It is not injection-molded plastic: it is a fully 3D-printed resin kit for experienced modelers. That brings finer detail with it, but also a different building procedure than with an ordinary plastic kit. Against the British machine, the Spanish version has a different fuselage, a reworked radiator and landing gear of its own; several marking options are available. The manufacturer offers the same subject in the larger 1:32 scale as well, so if you want a more striking piece for a display case, it is worth looking at that too.
The Hawker Fury was a British interwar fighter biplane of the 1930s, an elegant, aerodynamically clean machine, very fast for its day, which stood among the best of the fighter aviation of the time. Spain ordered the Fury in 1935; in place of the British engine the machines got the French Hispano-Suiza 12Xbrs of roughly 700 horsepower, which called for a reworking of the nose and the radiator. They first flew in the spring of 1936 and reached Spain on 11 July 1936, just a week before the outbreak of the Spanish Civil War. The delivered machines were thus divided between both sides of the conflict, and one of them took part in the defense of Madrid in the autumn of 1936. It is therefore a very particular, historically sharply drawn subject, not a general interwar biplane.
Resin and 3D-printed parts cannot be glued with ordinary cement for polystyrene: what is used is super glue (cyanoacrylate), and epoxy on the larger joints. First wash the parts in warm soapy water to remove the mold release and resin residue, then carefully cut the supports and the casting blocks off. Sanded resin dust is harmful to health, so always sand wet and with respiratory protection. Apply a primer before painting, which evens the surface out and reveals the lines left by printing. The key and most demanding phase on a biplane is the rigging: study the layout in advance, pre-drill the holes before the wings are glued together and use tensioned elastic filament or drawn wire. Count on the rigging alone taking up a substantial part of the building time.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted as a resin kit (3D print). Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
