A printed sheet with a light plywood texture with shading, prepared for 1:48 scale. It replaces the laborious painting of wood on a cockpit, on covers and on a propeller.
Responsibility details are not available.
Wood is hard to paint on a model. The grain has to be fine and regular, and at the same time it must not look like a printed pattern. This sheet shortens the job: it carries a finished light plywood texture with shading, so the surface does not read as one flat shade but has depth. It comes into its own anywhere a model calls for wood, for instance on the floor and the side walls of a cockpit, on plywood covers or on propeller blades.
The pattern is prepared for 1:48 scale, so the density of the grain matches the size of parts in that scale. The sheet is a plain area and is not divided into the parts of one particular kit: you cut the shape you need out of it or trace it from the part you want to cover. That makes it usable on any model where a wooden surface appears.
A flat printed sheet goes on like a wet decal: dip the cut piece in lukewarm water for a few seconds, let it stand until the print starts to move freely, and slide it into place. The base should be smooth and coated with gloss varnish, otherwise silvering will show under the print. Once dry, varnish the whole area so that the edges disappear. A decal softener can be used on this sheet in the usual way; it helps the print settle into a broken-up surface.
It will suit modelers who build machines with wooden parts and do not want to paint the texture by hand. The model, paints, varnish and softener are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
