An accessory set with the British Rolls-Royce Merlin Mk.45/46 aero engine in 1:48 scale. Intended for a build with an exposed engine bay.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Rolls-Royce Merlin is a British liquid-cooled V-12 which during the Second World War powered most of the key British aircraft. The Mk.45 and Mk.46 versions belong to the range with a single-stage supercharger and are associated above all with the Supermarine Spitfire Mk.V fighter. The Mk.46 differs from the Mk.45 in a modification to the supercharger which shifted its best performance to greater altitudes. Typical of the whole range are a narrow block with two banks of cylinders in a V, exhaust pipes led out along the sides and a dense system of plumbing around the reduction gear housing at the front.
The engine in 1:48 scale as an accessory for a plastic kit. The set is aimed at a build with an exposed engine bay, where the powerplant is visible. The extent of the parts and the kit the manufacturer has in mind are given in the enclosed instructions.
The parts are not made of polystyrene, so glue them with cyanoacrylate glue; solvent cement for plastic does not take on them. Cut surplus material and manufacturing marks away with a sharp blade a little clear of the part and sand the remainder carefully. Wash and degrease everything before painting, otherwise paint will not hold. Assemble and paint the engine before you close up the fuselage, and keep trying it dry in the place where it is to sit. A dark base, a careful dry brush with a metallic pigment and thin oil shadows between the cylinders will draw even the small plumbing out of the block.
For builders of British aircraft in 1:48 scale who want to open the panels on a model and show the engine under them instead of an empty nose. The package contains the accessory set. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
