MiG-21UM — interior 3D decal 1:48 (Quinta Studio)

A set of color 3D-printed cockpit details for the MiG-21UM in 1:48 scale from Quinta Studio. It is not a model of an aircraft but an upgrade accessory with which you bring the interior of the plastic kit of the trainer version of the MiG-21 from Trumpeter to life quickly and without laborious painting.

What it is and how it works

The details are printed by 3D technology on thin backing decal paper, so they have relief and color at the same time. Typically they cover the instrument panel, the side consoles, the controls and the seat belts for both cockpits. They are applied as a wet decal directly onto the plastic cockpit parts, which takes the place of hand painting and of photo-etched sets.

Use

• Intended specifically for the MiG-21UM kit in 1:48 (Trumpeter)
• Cut the part out, soak it in lukewarm water for about 15 seconds and slide it off the backing paper
• Coat the degreased surface with a gloss varnish (Future/Klear, Tamiya X-22); a matte base is a mistake
• Do not use a decal softener or a decal fixer, because the manufacturer prohibits them; they would attack the printed resin. On an intricate surface a drop of super glue helps
