The engine, the propeller and the cowling of the P-47C in 1:48 scale

An accessory set for a model of the P-47C Thunderbolt fighter from Dora Wings in 1:48 scale. It contains the propeller, the R-2800 engine and the engine cowling, that is the whole nose of the machine. The R-2800 is an air-cooled eighteen-cylinder radial arranged in two rows, and on the Thunderbolt it is precisely its cylinders that are clearly visible through the opening in the cowling.

What the set solves

The front part of the Thunderbolt is bulky and the viewer takes it in first. In the kit the engine is usually suggested only by the front ring of cylinders, so there is nothing to show in the depth of the cowling. The replacement parts carry sharply legible cylinder fins, the valve gear and the plumbing, and the cowling that goes with them has a thinner edge around the intake opening, which looks more natural on the model than the thick wall from the box.

Building and painting tips

• These parts are not polystyrene, they are bonded with a small amount of super glue.
• Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little way from the part and sand the remainder down.
• Wash and degrease the parts before painting, otherwise the primer does not hold.
• Paint the engine separately before seating it in the cowling; later you will not be able to reach it.
• Fit the propeller only after the painting and varnishing of the nose has been finished.
• Try the fit of the cowling to the fuselage dry and even out any gap by sanding.
