The Supermarine Spitfire is one of the best-known British fighter aircraft, and the designation Tr.9 belongs to its two-seat trainer conversion derived from the Mk IX version. On that machine the original cockpit moved forward and a second station with glazing of its own was added behind it, set higher so that the instructor could see forward over the pupil's head. The model therefore has two cockpits instead of one, and considerably more of the interior shows under the glazing than on the single-seat version.
The set holds colored interior elements made by printing. They have a raised surface, so the instruments, the levers and the consoles are not just a printed area but have real relief. They are carried on sheets of backing decal paper and the elements have no adhesive layer of their own: the part is cut from the sheet, dipped in lukewarm water for about 15 seconds and slid off the paper into place. A decal softener and a setting solution do not belong on them, as their chemicals would attack the printed resin. The set is measured for the kit from Airfix in 1:48 scale.
First spray the tubs of both cockpits in the base color, let them dry completely and go over them with a gloss varnish of the Future, Klear or Tamiya X-22 kind, because it is the gloss that the elements hold on; on a broken-up wall a drop of super glue helps. Separate the parts with a sharp blade, move them with tweezers and press them down with a cotton bud once they are in place; into corners and onto curved walls guide them piece by piece rather than in one stroke. Work from front to back and finish the interior before you glue the fuselage halves together.
The set suits the modeler who wants both spaces of a two-cockpit Spitfire to read without lengthy painting of small details. The interior elements are supplied on their own. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
