A printed Quinta Studio set for the Soviet Yak-7B and Yak-9D fighters in 1:48 scale: the ratchet on the propeller hub and exhausts in the late version. For the Zvezda kits.
Responsibility details are not available.
The Yak-7B and the Yak-9D were among the main Soviet fighters of the Second World War. Both come from a common design line with mixed construction and were powered by the Klimov M-105 V12. The Yak-9D version differed from the basic Yak-9 in an increased fuel capacity, which extended its range. Small external features changed on both types during production, and it is exactly these that decide how a model reads.
The set brings two groups of parts. The first is the ratchet on the propeller hub, to which a ground starter was connected at engine start. The second consists of exhaust stubs in the late version, as carried by machines of later production batches. The parts are printed and carry fine surface detail that cannot be held when molded in plastic, such as the thin edges of the exhaust mouths.
The parts are joined to print supports. Cut them off with a sharp blade a little way from the part, sand the remainder down and wash and degrease the surface before painting. They are not polystyrene, so glue them with cyanoacrylate glue. It is practical to fit the exhausts only after the fuselage has been painted, so that their dark, heat-stained shade can be applied without masking the area around them.
The set is intended for the Zvezda kits in 1:48 scale and suits a modeler who wants more pronounced detail on a finished model with no rebuilding. The kit, paints and glue are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
