The YF-23 was a fighter prototype developed by Northrop for the American ATF program, whose goal was a new generation stealth fighter. Two flying demonstrators were built and competed against the rival YF-22. The aircraft stood out for its shaping for a low radar and infrared signature, its high speed and its unusual configuration with two canted tail surfaces. The YF-22 (the later F-22 Raptor) eventually won the competition and the YF-23 remained a prototype, valued today for its original look and its technical solutions.
Cut the parts from the sprues and glue them with liquid modeling cement for plastic. Paint and highlight the cockpit before you close the fuselage, and mask the clear glazing during spraying. The large surfaces on the upper side of the airframe need careful filling and cleaning up of the joints — that is how the smooth shapes come out. Apply a primer and the paints with an airbrush and bring out the fine panel lines discreetly with a wash.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
