A mask set from the Czech manufacturer Omask intended for the kit of the CANT Z.1007bis Alcione in 1:72 scale from Italeri and Supermodel (Italeri issues this tooling in reissues). The set contains pre-cut self-adhesive masks that you stick onto the parts of the model, spray the paint and remove once it is dry. That does away with the slow and imprecise cutting of masking tape with a knife directly on the model.

The real subject

The CANT Z.1007bis Alcione (kingfisher) was an Italian three-engine medium bomber of the Second World War. Characteristic was its largely wooden construction, at a time when most combat aircraft were moving to all-metal structures. The Alcione served with the Regia Aeronautica across a whole range of theaters, from the Mediterranean to the Eastern Front.

Use

• First degrease the part you are going to mask and let it dry.
• Lift the mask off its backing sheet (tweezers or the tip of a scalpel help) and seat it precisely in place.
• Press the edges down carefully with a toothpick or a blunt stick, because paint will creep wherever the mask does not sit.
• Spray the paint in several thin coats, never in one heavy one.
• Remove the masks only once the paint is dry, with tweezers and at a sharp angle.
