Responsibility details are not available.
An injection-molded plastic kit of the Italian flying boat CANT Z.501 Gabbiano in 1:72 scale from the Italian manufacturer Italeri. The model captures a long-range reconnaissance seaplane with a single engine above the wing and a characteristic boat-shaped hull. A decal sheet for several color schemes is included in the box. It is an older and long-popular mold.
The Z.501 Gabbiano (seagull) was an Italian single-engine flying boat for long-range maritime reconnaissance, designed by Filippo Zappata. It first flew in 1934 and in the early part of its career set several distance records. It was largely of wooden construction with fabric covering, with the engine nacelle carried above the wing. By the outbreak of the Second World War it formed the backbone of Italian maritime reconnaissance and served with a number of Regia Aeronautica squadrons. The crew sat in the boat hull, which at the same time provided buoyancy on the water.
On a flying boat the hull is the key part: take care to glue the two halves of the hull cleanly and to sand the seams smooth so that the line of the bottom stands out. Assemble the engine nacelle on its struts above the wing carefully so that the cowling fits. Fit and mask the canopy glazing. Glue the plastic with liquid modeling cement, even out the surface with primer and apply the paint with an airbrush. On an older mold with raised lines, paint sparingly so that the detail does not disappear. A stand or a water surface on a base works well; choose the weathering with service at sea in mind.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
