An injection-molded plastic kit of the Harkonnen ornithopter from the film world of Dune in 1:72 scale from Meng. It is an entirely new tooling (a licensed science fiction model) with a well-worked wing mechanism: an internal drive in the fuselage lets the individual pairs of wings be moved, folded, spread and tilted as on the real subject. The package holds four crew figures, two sets of landing gear (for the landing and the flight modes) and a stand for display in flight.
The ornithopter, nicknamed the thopter in Dune, is the most widespread flying machine of the Empire: it takes off and stays in the air by flapping its wings in the manner of insects and birds. It is used for transport, reconnaissance, rescue and combat duties. The Harkonnen version differs from the Atreides one in its more robust, heavily armed form and its six agile wings, which give it great maneuverability, vertical takeoff and high speed. In the film treatment the ornithopters are among the most iconic machines of the whole saga.
Assemble the moving wing mechanism exactly according to the instructions and test its action before the fuselage is glued shut. Paint the interior and the crew figures before the cabin is closed up. Apply the dark, restrained Harkonnen scheme with an airbrush over a primer; underline the metallic cast and the wear with dry brushing, a fine wash and discreet weathering. For display in flight, use the stand supplied.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
