A clear vacuum-formed cockpit canopy 1:72 F-14 Tomcat from Rob Taurus for a model of the carrier fighter with a variable-geometry wing.
Responsibility details are not available.
A formed clear cockpit canopy for the American Grumman F-14 Tomcat carrier-based fighter aircraft in 1:72 scale. The large one-piece glazing over the tandem cockpit is among the most conspicuous features of the whole aircraft, so on a model it shows a great deal how cleanly it is finished.
The Tomcat joined US Navy squadrons in the mid-seventies as a defensive fighter for carrier battle groups. The variable-geometry wing let it take off from and land on the deck at low speeds and still fly supersonically. The crew consisted of a pilot and a weapon systems operator; together with a powerful radar and long-range missiles it could track and attack targets at great distance. It left US Navy service in 2006, but to this day it remains one of the most popular subjects among modelers.
With glazing this large it pays to go over the surface after forming with fine sanding sponges and water and to finish with a polishing compound for plastics. Fingerprints leave marks, so the part is handled by the edges or in a glove. Before fitting it to the model, try out how far it overlaps the front part of the fuselage.
The clear part is supplied on its own, without the kit, the paints and the adhesives.
