Reskit F-18 Hornet wheels set 1:72 is a set of resin wheels for models of this carrier-borne multirole aircraft. It replaces the plastic kit wheels with a sharp casting and a legible tread.

The package is not a model of the aircraft but a detail accessory. It holds wheels cast in resin, meant as a replacement for the plastic wheels from the original kit. The gain lies mainly in the sharpness of the detail, which injection-molded plastic cannot hold at this scale: a legible tread pattern, the lettering on the sidewalls, fine detail of the hubs and the hub caps. The mold parting line also disappears, which otherwise has to be sanded away laboriously right across the tread. The maker is the Ukrainian company Reskit, which specializes in wheels, exhausts and other aftermarket sets.
The F/A-18 Hornet is an American twin-engine carrier-borne multirole aircraft. Operating from aircraft carriers means hard arrested landings and catapult launches, which calls for a robust landing gear with heavy tires. On carrier aircraft in particular, the rendering of the wheels is a visible detail that decides the impression the whole landing gear makes on a model.
First wash the castings in lukewarm water with a drop of detergent so that any remains of the mold release agent disappear. Cut the casting blocks off with a modeling saw, sand the surface down and protect your breathing when sanding resin. They are glued with super glue alone. Apply a primer before painting, spray the tires in a dark gray shade rather than pure black and paint the hubs separately, masked off with tape. A final dusting of the tread with pigments gives the model a realistic worn look.
The accessory is supplied as unpainted resin castings. The base kit, glue and paints are not included in the package.
