A set of parts for railway track, that is rails and ties, in 1:72 scale. It is not a model that stands on its own; it is a building element of a scene on which you place your vehicles.

What it is suited to

During the Second World War heavy equipment moved long distances by rail and was loaded onto flatcars. That is exactly why track is among the most rewarding subjects for a diorama: it creates a story even where there would otherwise be nothing but empty ground. The track can run through the diorama as a siding to a station, it can be shot up and bent, or a car can stand on it from which a vehicle is being unloaded at that moment. In the same scale the set goes together with models of vehicles and with figures of the 1:72 range.

Building and painting tips

• The parts are polystyrene and are glued with liquid cement for plastic.
• Bed the track into a ballast bed; laid straight onto the board it looks like a ruler and gives the scene away.
• Leave the sides of the rails and the foot rusty, but polish the railhead to a metallic shine, because wheels ran over it.
• Do not paint the ties in a single shade; neighboring pieces never looked the same.
• Let dust and grass settle between the rails, because clean track looks like a new turnout from a shop.
