An injection-molded plastic kit of the extraordinary super-heavy tank of the Imperial Japanese Army in 1:72 scale. The model from the Japanese maker FineMolds is a modern tooling, the parts are molded in gray-green plastic and the tracks are done by the link-and-length technique. Waterslide decals are in the package as well.
The O-I was a Japanese army project for a super-heavy tank weighing around 150 tons. A single prototype came about, and its trial run took place in 1943. Because of a shortage of material, the absence of a sufficiently powerful drive and the worsening war situation the machine never got beyond the prototype stage. Its dimensions place it among the heaviest tanks ever designed.
Assemble the link-and-length tracks in straight sections and curves and let them dry before fitting, so that they keep their shape. Finish and paint the running gear before closing up the hull. For a faithful look an airbrush suits well, along with dark washes into the recesses and dust or mud pigments on the lower areas.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
