The MK.36 naval bomb of the 1000 pound class, two pieces in 1:32 scale. Printed ResKit armament for US Navy carrier aircraft and RAF machines.
Responsibility details are not available.
While the army air forces relied on the AN series, the Navy had its own version worked out. The MK.36 derives from the army thousand-pound bomb, but differs in its filling and above all in modifications for carrier operations: different fuzes, a suspension lug to the naval standard and lugs for dive releases. The set offers two printed bodies. The surface carries fine riveting and suggested casing joints.
Ordnance of this type was carried by attack and fighter aircraft operating from aircraft carriers, for which a heavy bomb made it possible to hit bridges, tunnels and coastal batteries. Its use continued into the Korean War and in the Royal Air Force it appeared with units equipped from American deliveries. A dive release put particular demands on the attachment, which is why the body has fixed lugs that the army version lacks.
After removing the supports, check by eye that the tail cone is straight and, if need be, correct it carefully with heat. Naval aircraft usually carried their ordnance in dark olive or blue-gray, which can be supported by lightly brightening the edges. A shading wash drawn into the engraving brings the detail of the casing out. Stencils on the side give a large bomb the sense of scale it needs.
The delivery is a pair of bombs with no further equipment. The aircraft and the materials for the build are not included; the ordnance is meant to be hung on a finished carrier aircraft.
