The real subject

Jiefang is a brand of Chinese trucks and its name translates as liberation. The CA-30 version is an off-road military truck intended for carrying troops and materiel and for towing lighter loads. It was among the basic transport vehicles of the Chinese army, and machines of this kind turn up in period photographs everywhere something is being moved, supplied or built. For a modeler it is interesting precisely because it differs from the commonly built Western and Soviet vehicles and there are not many of them in display cases.

The model in 1:72 scale

The 1:72 scale connects vehicles with aircraft and figures of the same size, so the truck also suits an airfield or supply scene. A truck in it works out at roughly ten centimeters. The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted, unless stated otherwise. The scope of the parts and the color options offered are given in the instructions from the manufacturer.

Building and painting tips

On trucks the chassis and the load bed are what count. Clear the mating surfaces of excess material so that the frame does not sit crooked, and stand the finished truck on a flat board so that all the wheels touch down. Apply the paint in thin coats, otherwise it creeps into the fine relief of the sides and the load bed. Picking out the shadows in the load space and dusting the underside is rewarding too, because weathering is in place precisely on a supply vehicle.
