The Mitsubishi A5M, given the Allied code name Claude, was a Japanese carrier-based fighter with fixed landing gear and one of the first all-metal monoplanes of the Imperial Japanese Navy Air Service. It served from the second half of the 1930s and was the direct predecessor of the famous A6M Zero.
