The plastic kit 1:72 Kamov Ka-29 Helix-B from Hobby Boss represents the Soviet shipboard assault helicopter with coaxial rotors.
Responsibility details are not available.
This kit in 1:72 scale captures the Ka-29, the version from the Kamov design bureau intended for landing and supporting naval infantry. For helicopters, 1:72 is the most widely used scale and offers a good balance between the size of the model and the space it takes in a display case.
Kamov is exceptional in helicopter design for having long built machines with two coaxial contra-rotating rotors. Such an arrangement needs no tail rotor, keeps the machine short and compact and copes well with gusts over a pitching deck, which is exactly what naval aviation needs. The Ka-29 grows out of the anti-submarine Ka-27, but it has a reworked and widened forward section with a roomier cabin for a crew of three and a flat windscreen. The task of the machine was to carry a naval infantry landing party ashore and at the same time give it fire support from the hardpoints on the sides of the fuselage, so it combines the roles of transport and armed escort in a single type.
The coaxial rotors call for careful seating of the head so that both blade systems are level and in line. Finish the cabin before closing the fuselage and mask the glazing. Restrained weathering suits naval machines: salt deposits, wear on the leading edges and a slight sun-lightening of the upper surfaces. Make the rotor blades separately and glue them on at the very end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
