The paper project 1:72 Keldysh Sub-Orbital Bomber has been released by the AMP brand as an injection-molded kit of the Soviet machine that was never built.
Responsibility details are not available.
This set belongs among the projects that never left the drawing board. AMP has released it as an ordinary injection-molded kit in 1:72 scale, so you can build a machine that never actually flew and that nevertheless follows real technical documentation.
During the Second World War, Germany produced the concept of the so-called antipodal bomber: a rocket-powered glider was to leap above the edge of the atmosphere and then skip off the denser layers like a flat stone off water. After the war, Soviet institutes also studied the idea, and the name of the mathematician Mstislav Keldysh is still associated with a reworked variant. Neither branch of the project reached metal, yet it influenced later thinking about winged spacecraft.
Because nobody photographed the subject in service, you have unusually free rein when painting. Most builders choose either bare metal or dark heat-resistant shades on the underside of the airframe. The fuselage is long and smooth, so fill and sand the joints carefully. Given its shape, the finished piece is best presented on a stand, which brings out the slender lines.
The package consists of unpainted parts to assemble. For the finish, reckon on your own glue and paints, unless stated otherwise.
