A set of painting masks for the two-seat F-16D Fighting Falcon in 1:72 scale. The masks are stuck on before painting.
Responsibility details are not available.
The F-16 Fighting Falcon is a single-engine fighter with a pronounced bubble canopy that gives the crew all-round visibility. The F-16D version is two-seat: it has a lengthened canopy and a second seat behind the pilot, so the area of glazing is noticeably larger than on the single-seat version. It is precisely this glazing that is the most sensitive place on a model during painting, because every run of paint shows at once on a clear part.
The set holds masks cut to the shape of the areas that are to stay free of paint after spraying. The shapes match the two-seat F-16D version in 1:72 scale. Masking from pre-cut parts is quicker and more accurate than trimming tape by hand on the model, and thanks to it the frames of the glazing come out at one width along their whole length.
Stick the masks on before spraying, onto a clean, degreased surface that you have not touched with your fingers beforehand. Offer each part up dry with tweezers, check that it fits the shape and then press it down, especially around the edge, so that paint does not creep under the rim. Apply the paint in thin coats square to the surface, not at an angle under the edge of the mask. Take the mask off shortly after the paint dries, not after several days: a fresh finish separates cleanly, while an aged one tears at the edge.
The set suits anyone who wants sharp, straight canopy frames without the slow trimming of tape. The package holds masks only, unless stated otherwise; the model, paints and glue are not included.
