An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet variable-geometry MiG-23MLA fighter (NATO code name Flogger-G) in 1:72 scale from Clear Prop Models. This is the Expert edition, which adds photo-etched parts and painting masks to the plastic for a higher level of detail. The kit offers a richly broken-down cockpit, the option of building the wing either fully spread or swept, and several color schemes for aircraft from various operating countries. Its more demanding breakdown and the amount of detail make it suited rather to more experienced modelers.
The Mikoyan-Gurevich MiG-23 was a single-seat Soviet fighter with a variable-geometry wing that entered service in the Cold War era. The MiG-23ML/MLA version was a lightened and aerodynamically refined variant with an improved radar and engine, intended for air combat. The wing could be set in flight to several sweep angles according to the flight regime — from spread for takeoff and maneuvering to swept for high speed. The MiG-23 served with the air forces of the Soviet Union and of many friendly states.
Use liquid cement for plastic and glue the photo-etched parts with super glue. Apply a primer before painting, which will bring out the fine panel engraving. Camouflage and natural metal surfaces look best from an airbrush; the masks supplied make clean masking of the canopy and its transitions easier. Decide the wing sweep in advance — the position affects both the look and the choice of stores. It pays to finish and paint the detailed cockpit before closing up the fuselage.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
