About product

Nieuport 27 C.1 (1:72, Roden)

An injection-molded plastic kit of the French single-seat fighter Nieuport 27 of the First World War in 1:72 scale from Roden. The designation C.1 means a single-seat fighter. The box contains plastic sprues including a clear part and a set of waterslide decals. Like the other sesquiplanes of the period, this model calls for rigging between the wings and the struts.

The real subject

The Nieuport 27 was the final and most mature type of the famous family of French fighters with V-shaped wing struts. It stemmed directly from the Nieuport 24, compared with which it received a more powerful rotary engine, definitively resolved tail surfaces and a revised landing gear. It was committed in 1917 and 1918 with French as well as Allied squadrons and became the last production Nieuport fighter before the faster SPAD aircraft took over the role. Although more modern machines exceeded it in performance, it remained an agile and popular aircraft.

Building and painting tips

Cut the parts off with a sharp knife and glue them with thin cement for plastic. Paint the cockpit and the engine before closing the fuselage. Apply primer, then use an airbrush or a brush: the fabric covering in the color of doped linen, the engine cowlings in a metal shade. Make the rigging between the wings and the control wires from stretched sprue or fine filament and fit them only after varnishing, so that the biplane looks authentic.

Who the model is for

  • For collectors of First World War aircraft in 1:72 scale
  • For modelers who want to complete the Nieuport family with its final type
  • For lovers of period French fighters
  • Rather for mildly advanced builders, because of the small parts and the rigging

The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

FAQ

It denotes a single-seat fighter. The Nieuport 27 C.1 is therefore the fighter version for one pilot.

The Nieuport 27 stems directly from it, but it received a more powerful engine, definitively resolved tail surfaces and a revised landing gear. It was the last production Nieuport fighter of this family.

Yes. It is a biplane on which the bracing and control wires are stretched between the wings and the struts. You will make them best from stretched sprue or fine filament.
