A set of replacement wheels with a block tire tread for a model of the P-51D Mustang fighter in 1:72 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The North American P-51D Mustang was an American single-seat fighter of the Second World War with a Merlin V12 and a teardrop canopy. Its main landing gear tires came in several versions that differ in the tread pattern. This set matches the block tread, that is a pattern made up of regular rectangular fields.
The set replaces the main landing gear wheels from the kit with parts that have a more sharply rendered tread and hub. The parts are not polystyrene, so ordinary plastic cement does not work on them; they are bonded with super glue. Cut the excess material away with a sharp blade a little away from the part and sand the flat down level; the manufacturer's instructions give the exact preparation procedure.
Wash and degrease the parts before painting. A proven approach is to spray the whole wheel in the tire shade and, once it is dry, either mask the hub in a circle or paint it in with a brush; the reverse order usually ends with a ragged edge. The tread comes to life if a dark wash is run over the base color and the raised fields are lightened slightly. Fit the wheel to the landing gear leg only once it is painted.
The set is for modelers who want to improve the landing gear in the small 1:72 scale, that is the part of the model closest to the eye in a display case. The package contains wheel parts only, unless stated otherwise; the aircraft model, paints and glue are not included.
