The Lockheed C-130 Hercules is a four-engine turboprop transport aircraft with a high-set wing and a loading ramp at the rear. It is one of the longest-serving types of its category and serves dozens of operators all over the world. The extensive glazing of the flight deck, including the front windows and the side views, is a hard nut to crack on a model, because masking the many frames by hand takes longer than the spraying itself.
Masking parts in 1:72 scale cut to shape and laid out on a backing sheet, intended for the C-130 kit from Zvezda. The masks are lifted from the sheet one at a time and transferred straight onto the model.
The surface must be clean, dry and degreased. Lift the mask from the sheet with tweezers or the point of a scalpel, seat it in place and press it down all the way around so that paint cannot creep under the edge. Spray several thin coats instead of one heavy one; a heavy coat forms a ridge at the edge that stays behind once the mask comes off. It is advisable to spray the glazing frames first in the interior color and only then in the exterior color. Peel the mask off while the paint is dry to the touch but not yet fully cured, otherwise it may tear and lift the paint at the edge with it.
The set saves time for anyone building a large aircraft with extensive glazing who wants crisp frame edges without cutting tape by hand. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
