Unguided R4M rockets with an armor-piercing warhead in 1:72 scale, made by 3D printing. Intended for IBG Fw 190D models.
Responsibility details are not available.
The R4M was a German unguided air-to-air rocket from the end of the Second World War. It was fired from racks under the wing and stabilized by fins that opened out after launch. Alongside the ordinary warhead, a version with an armor-piercing warhead was also developed for use against ground targets, and that is the subject of this set. The Fw 190D, for which the set is intended, is the late version of the German fighter with a lengthened nose and the twelve-cylinder Jumo 213 engine.
The set brings rockets made by 3D printing in 1:72 scale. With a shape as small as this, printing allows thin stabilizing fins and a clean transition of the warhead, which injection-molded plastic cannot manage in this scale. The parts are adapted to the models of the Fw 190D line from IBG, so on another kit expect to fine-tune the attachment.
The printed parts are held on thin print supports. Cut them off with a sharp blade a little away from the part and carefully sand the remaining stub so that the shape stays whole; do not break them off, as the thin fins are fragile. Then wash and degrease the surface, or print resin residue will keep the paint from adhering. The parts are not polystyrene, so you will join them with cyanoacrylate glue. Seat the rockets only after the underside of the wing has been painted, and check the exact placement and spacing in the kit instructions. Work over a mat, or a small part is easily lost.
The set suits modelers of German fighters from the end of the war who want to complete a model with underwing armament. The package contains the parts listed; the model, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
