The seat belts of Soviet aircraft of the Second World War were simple compared with Western practice, which makes it all the more noticeable in a small scale when they are missing from the seat. An empty seat shell gives the boxy construction away at first glance, whereas a belt across the backrest gives the cockpit depth. The set offers the belt pattern designated as type 1.
The sheet holds three-dimensional printed belts on backing decal paper for two seats. The print captures the texture of the fabric as well as the coloring of the hardware, so even in 1:72 scale the belt looks like a separate part rather than a painted line. The set is universal and is not tied to the kit of a particular manufacturer, because the belt conforms to the shape of the seat only during application. Two sets on the sheet will cover a two-seat cockpit or two separate models.
The belts are released from the backing paper by briefly dipping the sheet in lukewarm water, and no decal softener is used with them, as the chemicals attack the printed resin. Cut them out with a sharp blade, dip the sheet briefly in lukewarm water and slide the belt onto the seat with tweezers, where the gloss coat of the surface holds it. The material takes slight shaping, so a belt can be folded over the edge of the backrest or left lying freely. The surface must be degreased and coated with gloss varnish, which is why the belts are fitted only after the cockpit is painted.
The set suits modelers who build Soviet aircraft in the small scale and want to finish a cockpit quickly and without bending photo-etched parts. It will also be appreciated by modelers who are only starting with accessories. The package contains only the belts. The kit, paints and glue are not included, unless stated otherwise.
