The small resin tiles 1:72 Roof Tiles made by the Italian maker Royal Model will cover the roof of a building or create a pile of rubble.
Responsibility details are not available.
These are castings of barrel tiles of semicircular profile reduced to 1:72 scale, and the material is resin according to the manufacturer. Compared with larger scales the tiles are really tiny, which brings a different way of working and different expectations of the result. Reaching for tweezers is practically a necessity here.
On a roof reduced seventy times a viewer does not make out an individual tile. What is perceived is the rhythm of the rows and the play of light in the waves of the roofing, so the work concentrates on the regularity of the pitch and on keeping the edge of the roof from ending abruptly. It is exactly at the eaves and at the ridge that it pays to spend extra time, because that is where the eye stops first. The opposite also applies here: a small irregularity that would be distracting in a larger scale gets lost.
The quickest route goes through a template: draw the spacing of the rows on paper, fix the paper to the roof board and lay the tiles along the lines from the bottom up. Reach for an adhesive with a longer setting time, so that you have time to align a row. Build a damaged roof by deliberately leaving several pieces out of the surface and exposing the battens beneath them. Keep the coat thin and let the primer show through.
The tiles are raw castings; the package contains neither varnish nor glue.
