Russian Heavy Infantry Grenadiers 1812-1815 - Zvezda figures, 1:72 scale

A set of unassembled plastic figures from Zvezda in 1:72 scale, representing Russian heavy infantry, the grenadiers of the Napoleonic Wars of 1812 to 1815. The package contains unpainted plastic figures in several poses, among them officers, drummers and standard bearers. This is a set of figures to be assembled and painted, not finished figures. Paints, glue and bases are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.

The real subject

Russian grenadiers were the elite heavy infantry of the tsarist army and played a decisive part in the campaigns against Napoleon, including the defense of the homeland in 1812 and the advance into Europe that followed. The figures match the 1812 pattern equipment with its characteristic high-fronted shako and a rolled greatcoat carried over the shoulder. Grenadiers were placed on the flanks of the battalions and stood out for their height and their training; their solid square formations were the mainstay of the Russian infantry line.

Tips for painting figures

• Wash the figures and spray them with a thin primer so that the paint holds well.
• Paint from a dark base toward lighter layers and bring out the uniform detail with a wash.
• Apply the white straps and piping in thin coats so that they do not bury the molded detail.
• Leave the shakos, plumes and standards for last as the color accents of the unit.
