Ten schemes of South African aircraft of the postwar era, from the Mustangs and Sabres of Korea to the supersonic Mirage.
Responsibility details are not available.
The first volume of the postwar collection opens a chapter that modelers know less well than the desert fighting: No. 2 Squadron of the South African Air Force went to Korea in 1950, flying first piston Mustangs and then jet Sabres. The sheet offers both stages and rounds them out with machines that served at home.
The home part includes a late Spitfire from the Air Operations School, a two-seat Vampire from the Advanced Flying School, a reconnaissance Mosquito from as early as 1946, a carrier-capable Buccaneer of No. 24 Squadron and two supersonic Mirages of No. 3 Squadron. Across ten schemes the set thus travels from the last propeller fighters to the equipment of the eighties.
On postwar machines the cleanliness of the surface matters more than on camouflaged aircraft, because light areas and aluminum sheen reveal every step under the carrier film. It therefore pays to clear coat to a high gloss and to lay the markings on one at a time. The aircraft model is sold separately; what you get here is the decal sheet. Anyone building the Korean pair side by side will appreciate that the piston and the jet machine of the same squadron are here just a single year apart.
