The Saab 91 Safir is a Swedish single-engine low-wing monoplane with a piston engine and a retractable nose landing gear. It came about shortly after the Second World War as a trainer and touring aircraft and in that role it proved itself with civil operators as well as with military flying schools, where it served for basic pilot training. It was a machine undemanding to service and calm to handle, that is exactly what is expected of a trainer.
A plastic kit in 1:72 scale, that is the most common size for aircraft models. The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted; the extent of the parts, the marking options and the recommended shades are given in the instructions enclosed by the manufacturer. The subject is small, so a finished model takes up little room in a display case and goes well beside other machines of the same scale.
Before gluing, remove surplus material and traces of manufacture from the parts, sand the mating faces and try the joints dry. On a small single-engine aircraft the result is decided by clean work on the cockpit and the landing gear: paint the interior before you close up the fuselage and protect the glazing with a mask before spraying. Trainers and civil machines tend to be well kept and glossy, so instead of pronounced wear it pays off to concentrate on an even, smooth finish and on precisely placed markings.
Paints, glue and filler are not included in the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
