An injection-molded plastic kit of the Soviet and Russian supersonic strategic bomber Tu-160 in 1:72 scale from the manufacturer Trumpeter. The name also gives the nickname from the NATO reporting-name system.
The Tu-160 is a four-engine bomber with a variable-geometry wing that came about in the Tupolev design bureau as a carrier of long-range cruise missiles for strategic aviation. It first flew at the beginning of the 1980s and entered squadron service at the end of that decade. The engines are housed in pairs in nacelles under the center of the fuselage and they are the most powerful powerplants ever used on a combat aircraft. Inside the fuselage there are two weapons bays with rotary launchers for cruise missiles. The crew consists of four members, and the aircraft is the largest and heaviest combat aircraft ever to enter service. The machines still serve with long-range aviation today and have been through several modernizations.
With a large model it pays to try the assembly dry beforehand and to fill and sand the long fuselage seams in sections. Lay the movable wing out in one position in advance so that the angles match on both sides. A white finish is demanding on evenness, so start with a light filler primer and apply the white with an airbrush in many thin coats. Go over the surfaces with a gloss clear coat before the decals and choose a semi-gloss or satin finish at the end.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
