1:72 US M113A1 Armored Car is a plastic kit of the American M113A1 tracked armored personnel carrier in 1:72 scale by Trumpeter.
Responsibility details are not available.
This injection-molded plastic kit depicts the American M113 armored personnel carrier in its A1 version. Despite the wording in the product name, this is a tracked vehicle, not a wheeled armored car. The 1:72 scale makes it a rewarding model for a smaller display case and also a great companion piece to helicopter and aircraft models in the same scale. Trumpeter offers other versions of the same family in this range, so the collection is easy to expand.
The M113 is one of the most numerous armored personnel carriers in history. Its hull is welded from aluminum alloy, which made the vehicle significantly lighter, allowed it to be transported by air, and gave it the ability to swim. The A1 version brought a major change in propulsion: a diesel engine replaced the gasoline one, reducing fire risk and extending range. The vehicle carries a crew plus an infantry squad, who disembark via a drop-down ramp at the rear, and it most often mounts a heavy machine gun at the commander's hatch. Carriers of this generation became famous in Southeast Asia, where heavily up-gunned variants were also created, and in various modernized forms they remain in service with numerous armies today.
This small scale leaves little room for error, so sand the sprue gates smooth and apply glue in small drops. Finish the running gear before closing up the hull. Even out the surface with a primer, apply the olive base coat with an airbrush and leave it with subtle shade variation. The flat sides of the hull call for a fine wash into the seams and edge highlighting. Dust on the fenders and mud around the tracks will give the model scale and life.
The model is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
