This figure set from the British brand Airfix belongs to the Vintage Classics line, which brings older tooling from the brand's archive back into the shops. In subject, it ties into the legends of Robin Hood and depicts the other side: the Sheriff of Nottingham and his armed retinue. The parts are injection-molded plastic and are supplied unpainted on sprues.
In medieval England, the sheriff was a royal official of the county. He collected taxes, presided over the court and commanded an armed force, so in popular storytelling he became the embodiment of arbitrary lordly power and a supporter of Prince John. The figures' equipment matches the image of the High Middle Ages — helmets, mail armor, swords, spears and bows.
Remove the small castings with a sharp knife and run a fine file along the parting seams. A light base coat works well, followed by flat tones for fabric and leather, and finally a dark wash to bring out the folds and facial features. Dry brushing on the edges of the armor can cheaply suggest a metallic sheen.
The figures arrive unglued and unpainted; you will not find paints or glue in the box unless stated otherwise.
