The set brings a 3D printed resin replica of the FAB-500M-62 aerial bomb complemented by the UMPK module, that is by a set of folding wings and a correction unit, in 1:32 scale. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory for the underwing armament. The print holds the thin surfaces of the wings as well as the definition of the tail surfaces, which a casting would thicken.
The FAB-500M-62 is a high-explosive fragmentation aerial bomb of the 500 kilogram weight class, of a design dating from the beginning of the 1960s. The UMPK module turns it into a glide bomb: after release the wings deploy, the unit corrects the trajectory by satellite navigation and the bomb therefore reaches considerably farther than in a plain free fall. The combination is carried by Russian tactical bombers and fighter-bombers in present-day fighting. It is a weapon that markedly changed the way old bombs are used.
First wash the 3D printed parts in warm water with a little dish soap, so that they are rid of the residue of printing resin. Cut the supports off with a sharp blade or a fine saw as close to the part as possible and sand the marks down with your airways protected. Resin does not bond with cement for polystyrene, so use cyanoacrylate glue. Lay a thin coat of primer on before painting, otherwise the paint holds poorly on a smooth print. Assemble and paint the weapons separately and glue them onto the pylon only once the varnish has dried, so that the fine surfaces are not rubbed.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
