AFV Fantasy Color Gory Red

AFV Fantasy Color Gory Red - a spray paint from Vallejo

A spray from the paint offering of the Spanish brand Vallejo, carried under the shade name Gory Red. The contents are ready paint under pressure, not a bottled concentrate. The commonest trouble with sprays does not arise while spraying but in the steps that follow: overcoating, masking and varnishing. It therefore pays to work with a generous margin for drying.

Use

• Tell setting apart from drying through. The surface may be dry to the touch within minutes, but the coat underneath is still working. Before masking and further work, let the paint stand considerably longer.
• Stick masking tape on only once the paint has dried through, and take some tack off it on your sleeve before applying it. On fresh spray the tape bites in and tears the coat off.
• Before overcoating the spray with other chemistry, be it varnish, enamel or bottled acrylic, make a test on a scrap. Different ranges need not agree and a solvent can attack or wrinkle the coat beneath.
• Apply decals onto a smoothed, fully dried base so that no silvering film is left under them.
• Choose a protective varnish that will tolerate the coat beneath. If you are unsure, test the combination away from the model.
• Higher humidity and cold lengthen drying markedly; in such conditions allow more time for the paint to dry through.

Who it is for

For modelers who go on after the base coat with masking, decals and weathering and need a reliable base. If you plan a multilayer procedure, count drying as a full step, not as a pause.

The can is pressurized and flammable. Spray in a ventilated space or outdoors, away from open flame, with respiratory protection. Do not expose it to temperatures above 50 °C and do not puncture it even when empty.
