A plastic kit of a stylized figure from the manufacturer Meng, made with no tie to a scale. The figure is deliberately caricatured — a large head, a short body, simplified arms and legs. You assemble and paint the model yourself.
On a stylized figure the uniform and the equipment are reduced to a few legible shapes: a cap, a coat, a belt and a couple of small items. That has a practical consequence for the painting — the areas are large and the color transitions between them make up most of the final impression. The boundary between the areas therefore has to be clean; a blurred transition is far more visible on a small stylized shape than on a scale figure.
Once it is assembled, first level the parting lines carefully and sand them over with the finest paper you have. Apply a thin surfacer and paint from the bottom up, that is from the largest areas to the details. Use thinned acrylics and rather more coats than one heavy one. Bring the volume out softly: a slightly darkened shade into the folds, a slightly lightened one on the high points. Separate the sharp edges with a fine brush and heavily thinned paint, with which mistakes are easier to correct. Leave the small metal and leather elements until last and give them a different degree of gloss from the uniform. Fix the whole with a matte clear coat and finish any glossy parts off spot by spot.
The kit is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
