About product

Revell Contacta Liquid Poly Cement 18 g

Contacta Liquid from Revell is a very thin, liquid solvent cement for polystyrene plastic models. It comes in a bottle weighing 18 g with a brush built into the cap. The cement works like a weld: it dissolves the surface of the plastic and literally welds the parts being joined together, so the joint is as strong as the material around it. It differs from a thicker cement in a tube above all in the way it is applied: Contacta Liquid is not applied before joining, but on parts that you have already put together. You run the brush along the seam and the thin cement wicks into it by capillary action on its own. The result is clean joints with no run-out and no fingerprints in softened plastic, which makes it ideal for fuselages, wings, hulls and every place where the seam is sanded and polished afterward.

Use

  • First dry-fit the parts together and hold them in place (with your fingers, a rubber band, a clamp or masking tape).
  • Run the brush along the seam; the cement wicks inside on its own. Apply it sparingly, because less is more.
  • Hold the parts for a moment until the joint sets; leave it longer to cure to full strength.
  • Suitable for polystyrene, the usual modeling plastic. It does not bond resin or metal.
  • Do not use it on clear parts (canopies, windows, lights), because the solvent fumes will fog them. On clear plastic use a cement meant for glazing and clear parts.
  • Keep the bottle tightly closed so that the cement does not evaporate.

Who it is for

For anyone who builds plastic models and wants joints with no visible run-out. Thin cement with a brush is today the standard choice of modelers from advanced beginners upward, especially where the seam is sanded and filled after drying. If you need to set large parts in place calmly and adjust their position first, reach rather for the thicker Contacta in a tube; the two cements complement each other well on the bench.

A flammable liquid. It contains organic solvents, so use it in a well ventilated space, do not inhale the fumes and keep it away from open flame and sources of ignition. Avoid contact with the eyes and skin. Keep out of the reach of children. Not suitable for clear parts, because it fogs them.

FAQ

Contacta Liquid is markedly thinner and is applied with the brush on parts that are already put together; it wicks into the seam on its own. The classic Contacta in a tube is thicker and gel-like and is applied with a needle applicator on the part before joining, so you have time to set large parts calmly.

Thin Contacta Liquid where you want an invisible joint with no run-out and can hold the parts together (fuselages, wings, hulls, fine parts). The thicker Contacta in a tube suits large or heavy parts that need to be moved and adjusted before it dries.

No. It is a solvent cement for polystyrene and works by softening the plastic. On resin and metal use super glue, and on clear parts a special cement for clear plastic; Contacta would fog canopies and windows.

It is a flammable product with organic solvents. Work in a ventilated space, do not inhale the fumes, stay away from open flame and keep the cement out of the reach of children.
