Dark Purple is a dark violet from the Model Color line by Vallejo, carried under number 749 in the manufacturer's catalog. On models violet tends to be a secondary color, and all the more often it decides how the whole thing reads: it suits the cloaks, hoods and skirts of figures, banners and upholstery, flowers and fruit on a base, and sci-fi and fantasy subjects where the tone should be cold and dark.
Model Color is a water-based acrylic line built above all for brush work. The paint is thicker, covers after a few thin coats and dries matte, so the relief of a figure stays legible and does not disappear under a sheen. It is thinned with water or with the thinner intended for this line; for an airbrush it is thinned considerably more and the ratio is stated by the manufacturer on the packaging.
Shake the bottle before every use. Dark shades live on contrast: lay the surface in with the base tone, darken the recesses with thinned paint and pull the edges and folds up with a lighter tone, or the violet surface will stay uniform and flat. It can be lightened by adding gray or a light pink; pure white kills the shade fast. Apply it in thin coats and let each one dry.
It is aimed at painters of figures, historical and fantasy alike, and at modelers who need a dark cold tone for accessories and scenery.
The package holds the paint alone. Brushes, thinner and the model are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
