A resin R-24R air-to-air guided missile in 1:48 scale from the Russian brand Temp Models. The set is printed in resin, so the seeker head, the fins and the control surfaces carry detail that a plastic mold will not hold. It is not an aircraft model but a separate piece of armament for under the wing of a finished model.
The R-24 is a Soviet medium-range guided missile that came about as a substantially improved successor to the older R-23 and was carried by fighters with a variable-geometry wing. The letter R stands for semi-active radar guidance: the missile follows the reflection of the signal with which the radar of the parent aircraft illuminates the target, so the pilot has to hold the target in his sights right up to the hit. The standard armament was a pair, one radar-guided missile and one heat-seeking one, to cover both situations.
Release the body of the missile from the supports on a working surface and without bending it. Sand the marks with fine paper, wet and with respiratory protection. Wash the parts in lukewarm soapy water before painting. Training rounds tend to have prominent color bands, while live ones have restrained markings, so decide according to the scene you are building. They are glued with cyanoacrylate glue (super glue).
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. The model, glue and paints are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
