R-3S guided missile, 1:48 is a 3D-printed resin replica of the Soviet heat-seeking short-range R-3S missile in 1:48 scale.
Responsibility details are not available.
The set holds a 3D-printed resin replica of the Soviet R-3S air-to-air guided missile in 1:48 scale. It is not an aircraft model but an accessory for the external stores. The print holds the small stabilizing fins and the clear cover of the infrared seeker, which on a missile this slender a mold simplifies.
The R-3S is the infrared-guided version of the Soviet short-range R-3 air-to-air missile, the standard armament of MiG-21 fighters. The seeker homes on the heat signature of the engine, so the aircraft does not have to illuminate the target with a radar and the pilot can break away after launch. The glazed nose is the unmistakable mark of the infrared seeker. The missile was carried in a pair with the radar-guided R-3R version.
Wash the 3D-printed parts in warm soapy water first, to get rid of any print resin residue. Cut the print supports off with a sharp blade or a fine saw as close to the part as you can and sand the marks away with respiratory protection. Resin does not bond with polystyrene cement, so use cyanoacrylate glue. Apply a thin coat of primer before painting, otherwise the paint will not hold well on the smooth print. Assemble and paint the armament separately and glue it to the pylon only once the varnish has dried, so that the fine surfaces do not get rubbed.
The set is supplied unassembled and unpainted. Glue, paints and accessories are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
