GSh-6-23 cannon housing for the MiG-31 1:32 from Temp Models

The set brings a 3D printed resin replacement for the cannon section on a model of the MiG-31 in 1:32 scale, that is the six-barrel GSh-6-23 cannon and its housing on the fuselage. It is not a model of an aircraft but an accessory that replaces a simplified part from the kit. The print holds the definition of the barrels as well as the small ventilation openings.

The real subject

The GSh-6-23 is a Soviet six-barrel rotary cannon of 23 mm caliber with an exceptionally high rate of fire. On the MiG-31 it is built into the fuselage behind the right main landing gear bay and in ordinary service it is covered by a housing, which is opened only for maintenance and for loading ammunition. That is why photographs usually show only the slot for the barrels and a few ventilation openings. The cannon was among the most powerful aircraft weapons of its class.

Building and painting tips

First wash the 3D printed parts in warm water with a little dish soap, so that they are rid of the residue of printing resin. Cut the supports off with a sharp blade or a fine saw as close to the part as possible and sand the marks down with your airways protected. Resin does not bond with cement for polystyrene, so use cyanoacrylate glue. Lay a thin coat of primer on before painting, otherwise the paint holds poorly on a smooth print. Number the small parts before you cut them off the supports, because once separated they are easily mixed up.
