Little Armory Color, 10th Anniversary Color - Flat Dark Earth 2

The color

Flat Dark Earth is among the most widespread tones of modern military gear. It is an earthy gray-beige with a brownish cast, that is the color which since the turn of the millennium has replaced the earlier olive green and black on weapons, holsters and load-carrying systems. On a model it looks subdued and does not draw attention away, so it takes further coats of shading and dry brushing well.

Where it is useful

The shade is carried in the Little Armory Color line, which the manufacturer issued for the tenth anniversary of that line, and it is aimed above all at models of small arms and their accessories. The use does not end there: the same tone suits the gear of figures of present-day armies, transport crates, packs and helmets, and the accessories of modern vehicles in a dry environment. It also works well as a lighter base under deposits of dust.

Application tips

• Stir the paint thoroughly before use, at rest the pigment settles at the bottom.
• Choose the thinner that the manufacturer recommends for this line; a cross between two systems will curdle.
• Spray in thin coats and let them flash off, one heavy coat floods the fine relief.
• On small parts the paint holds better on a degreased and primed surface.
• Try the shade on a piece of scrap plastic first, subdued tones differ in the light from the swatch.

Who it is for

For modelers who build present-day weapons, gear and figures and need a common earthy tone without having to mix it from several paints. Thinner, primer and varnish are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
