A decal set from AK Interactive in 1:35 scale. It is neither a kit nor a resin accessory: the package holds a sheet of wet decals with markings for modern Russian tanks and armored vehicles. The set is intended as a supplement to a plastic kit that either has no decals or offers only one marking option.
On modern armored vehicles the markings are small, yet decisive for the credibility of the model: tactical numbers, national and unit insignia, technical and warning stencils and data on the hull and turret. They are hard to paint by hand, because they are small shapes with sharp edges, and that is exactly where a decal set earns its place. Compare the content of the sheet, the number of marking options and the list of vehicle types with what you intend to build before you buy.
The procedure is the same as with any wet decals. The surface has to be painted and sealed with a smooth gloss clear coat, otherwise air will stay trapped under the decal and a silvery edge will appear. The decal is trimmed as close to the motif as possible, soaked in lukewarm water and slid onto the moistened spot. A decal softener helps it settle, and on a broken surface with rivets and engraving a repeated application helps too. Once dry, everything is sealed with a matte clear coat, and only then comes the weathering: dust, washes and pigments that tie the new markings into the rest of the model.
The set contains decals, not a model. The kit, paints and varnishes are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
