A Gunze Mr. Color modeling paint in a gloss blue shade to the American standard FS 15044, lacquer based and thinned with the thinner from the same range.
Responsibility details are not available.
The code FS 15044 comes from the American standard Federal Standard 595, where a shade is described by five digits. The first gives the sheen, so a one means a gloss surface; the second places the tone in a group, and five belongs to the blues. This is a dark saturated blue that the US Air Force and Navy used for national insignia, that is for the field of the star with bars, and for the associated markings. Because the shade is listed under an FS code, it can be paired with other paints from the same system without any guesswork.
Most often it comes into play when spraying national insignia through masks, where matching the color of a decal sheet matters, then on markings, prominent elements of a fuselage and on small parts that are meant to be glossy and saturated. The same blue also suits accessories and equipment on which a saturated dark tone is meant to stand out without a flat veil.
Mr. Color is a lacquer-based paint. It is thinned with the thinner intended for this range, not with water, and the same thinner cleans your tools. It dries fast and forms a hard, mechanically resistant film that takes masking and subsequent panel highlighting well. Apply it in thin coats, because a heavy coat of lacquer can etch the base, especially if there is a water-based paint underneath. Work in a well-ventilated space and protect your airways, because the thinner is aromatic. A gloss surface is at the same time a good base under decals.
One bottle of paint is supplied. Thinner, primer, varnish and tools are not included in the package, unless stated otherwise.
