A stylized figure of a soldier of the New Fourth Army in cartoon, foreshortened shapes. A plastic kit from the group of so-called egg and cute models.
Responsibility details are not available.
The New Fourth Army was a Chinese military formation that was active in the years of the Second Sino-Japanese War. Its members wore simple field equipment with no showy features, which on a stylized figure shows as a simple silhouette: a cap, a tunic belted at the waist, a pouch and a rifle. It is precisely such comprehensible shapes that suit a cartoon rendering best.
It is a plastic model from the group in which a figure is deliberately foreshortened: the head is large in relation to the body, the limbs are short and the detail is limited to the essentials. The result is a charming statuette rather than an accurate miniature, so it suits a desk, a shelf and also a gift for someone who does not build models. The number of parts and the extent of the package are stated in the manufacturer's instructions.
Separate the parts with nippers a little away from the part and level the remainder with a sharp blade; on a small figure every unworked stub shows. Try assembling the figure dry and only then join it permanently, so that the face and the hands point where you want them. Wash and degrease the surface before painting. On cartoon figures a clean color complemented only by a dark emphasis in the folds looks good; heavy shading needlessly fills in all the charm of the shape.
It will suit collectors of stylized figures and also modelers who want a rest from more demanding builds with something quick. Paints, glue and tools are not part of the delivery, unless stated otherwise.
