Vallejo Model Color Offwhite — off-white, acrylic paint 17 ml

A broken, slightly yellowed dirty white from the Vallejo Model Color acrylic line. It is a modeling paint, not a kit — the package consists of one dropper bottle with a volume of 17 ml.

Why off-white and not a pure white

That is the whole point of this shade. A pure white looks unnatural on a model — optically it is too cold and aggressive, on a scaled-down surface it looks like a plastic patch and it swallows all the shadows and detail. Real white surfaces are always a little faded, yellowed or lit through by their surroundings. An off-white therefore looks more realistic and it is the shade experienced modelers reach for instead of white from the tube.

Model Color or Model Air? The key difference

This shade belongs to the Model Color line — a thicker acrylic developed above all for the brush, which must be thinned with water or Vallejo thinner for the airbrush. The Model Air line sprays straight from the bottle without thinning; that is not the case here.

Use

• Winter camouflage — oversprayed or brushed-over surfaces of vehicles, including chipped and faded spots.
• Faded and sun-bleached surfaces, where a pure white would be too sharp.
• Canvas, sails, tarpaulins, bandages and the fabric parts of figure equipment.
• Interiors — the light walls of cabins, cockpits and fighting compartments.
• Lightening other shades without producing a cold, chalky tone.

Work tips

White shades cover worse than dark ones — apply more thin coats, never one heavy coat, and over a light base you will reach full coverage sooner. With winter camouflage let the base color show through in places or sand the white lightly once dry: winter finishes were field improvisations and never looked new.
