The Sd.Kfz. 234 series was among the best that German wheeled reconnaissance had. The eight-wheeled car stood on a load-bearing monocoque structure and was powered by an air-cooled Tatra V12 diesel, a choice aimed at running in dust and in frost. The 234/3 version swapped the turret for an open superstructure with a short 7.5 centimeter gun whose barrel measured 24 calibers. Its task was not to fight tanks but to support a reconnaissance patrol quickly with fire. The car moreover had two driving positions, so it reversed as briskly as it drove forward and did not have to turn around on a narrow track.
The model in 1:72 scale comes finished, assembled and painted, with the markings of the 116th Panzer Division from France in 1944. Nothing is glued or sprayed on; it is enough to unpack it and stand it in a display case. The markings aim at a particular machine rather than a generic representation, so the model will serve well in a collection ordered by unit or by battlefield.
It will be appreciated by collectors of German vehicles of the Second World War and especially by those with a weakness for reconnaissance cars. The 1:72 scale keeps the proportion with other vehicles and aircraft of the same size, so the model fits into a collection and into a finished scene. When carrying it, it is wiser to hold the model by the bottom of the hull than by the gun barrel.
A finished model is supplied. It is not a kit, so the package holds no glue, paints or decals, and a display case or a base is not included either, unless stated otherwise.
