A uniform sand finish established itself on United States armored vehicles during Operation Desert Storm, and it has accompanied their units in the Middle East and Central Asia ever since. The shade matching the Federal Standard FS 33446 covers the hulls of tanks, infantry fighting vehicles and light cross-country cars. On a model it looks deceptively undemanding, until settled dust, edge wear and traces of service are added to it.
The package guides you through the whole procedure and leaves no gaps. In it you will find an illustrated handbook, a sand primer applied in a single coat, a non-skid paste for the walking surfaces, covering shades for the hull, the rubber and the tracks, a product for softening the transitions and a translucent filter that lightens the desert yellow into a warmer tone.
Powder pigments in three tones make it possible to grade the application according to the surroundings. A vehicle standing out in the open desert looks different from a machine coming back into a built-up area. They are complemented by a pigment with a metallic sheen intended for burnished edges, steps and hatch rims. Running dirt, rusty streaks and fuel stains are handled by ready-made products in tubes with a built-in brush, so that mixing is unnecessary.
The set is rounded off by an odorless thinner, a satin varnish and three synthetic brushes: one flat and two round ones in fine sizes for details and tips. The layers follow one another in the order that the enclosed handbook describes step by step.
